Hi!
My love of trains began when I was a young gaffer (isn't that the truth for most railfans?), impressed by the size and noise of these ferro-equines. My favourite memories focus on our vacations 'up north', where the Ontario Northland mainline ran about a half-mile from our cottage (12 miles north of North Bay, six miles into the bush on an old logging road - an adventure in itself!). Because it was so quiet in the bush country we could hear a train coming from quite a distance away and all us kids would run up to the tracks to wave at the engineer (an uncle of mine was a hogger for the ONR). Later in the evening we'd be sitting down by the lake and hear the whistle blowing for Tomiko Station - that far-off mournful sound is one we've all heard at one time or another. Or hearing torpedoes going off because a train couldn't make it up the grade to Tomiko during a rainstorm. Another favourite memory is hitching a ride on a jigger (am I the only person who calls a speeder that?!) from the station to our road crossing. What fun!!
But life marched on and even though I never lost the interest, other priorities pushed it to the background until about 1999 when I finally returned to the hobby. What changes! From E and F units in multiple lashups to single 4,000 hp Dash 9's and AC4400's! But it's been great - like renewing an old and cherished friendship. It's nice to be back!
In creating this website I hope it will become a reference point for modellers looking to detail a locomotive or a source for those looking for a particular locomotive, from a Canadian perspective. As for actually selling photos, video clips or copyrights well, that's more or less just a sideline to help offset the costs associated with operating the site - web hosting fees, ISP services, that sort of thing. I'm certainly not doing it to get rich, that's for sure!
I wanted to ensure the site was quick to load and easily viewed with all the usual browsers, which is why there aren't a lot of fancy images, borders, that sort of thing. Many viewers may find the colour scheme a bit boring, but I've found a stark white background can be a little hard on the eyes. So Ii've tried to keep it simple and straightforward. I would appreciate any constructive or complimentary comments.
To end this little blurb I'll say 'Thanks!' for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed your visit.
Come back soon!
